GO GET MAINO'S "IF TOMORROW COMES"
It's not every day that I recommend CD's or do anything except post singles here on Bangkok. Listening to a whole CD all the way through takes a lot of time, then writing about it takes time, and I'm a busy guy. I like to focus more on individual songs that you can play during a pregame...I'm no music expert, I'm not here to critique people who know a shitload more about their craft than I do, I just know what plays well on some loud speakers. Not to mention, let's not forget that One Night In Bangkok has tremendous influence on the worldwide marketplace and I would hate to ruin some young rapper's career just because I didn't care for his CD. Nobody's paying me to hear my thoughts on full albums...nobody's paying me anything actually, which sucks.
That being said, I'm gonna go ahead and give my full recommendation for Maino's "If Tomorrow Comes." I "bought" it today just cuz I saw it sitting there, and I don't know why but I put the whole thing on my iPod and ended up listening to it all the way through sitting on the 2 to go uptown and back. Then I listened to it again at home, then again at the gym, and I'm still not sick of it. There are only two CD's in recent memory that I can say that about, Passion Pit's "Manners" and Eminem's "Relapse".
Every song is really, really good and each one has it's purpose. There is the huge single "All The Above"...there are the happy party songs "Hi Hater" and "Million Bucks"....there is the upbeat dedication song "Celebrate"...There are the sex songs "Let's Make a Movie" and "Hood Love"...There are the gangsta gangsta songs "Gangsta" and "Soldier"...There are the serious songs "Back to Life" and "Floating" and "Runaway Slave"...then there is every other song, each one telling a story about his life (if you didn't know Maino just got out of jail, he was there for 10 years for kidnapping a drug dealer and holding him hostage). His name is JerMAINe, hence the Maino, if you were wondering.
If you appreciate good rap then go out and get this CD. You're not gonna put it on while you're drinking to go out, but I promise you that if your a rap fan you will love it.
